Labor - Delivery  - Homeopathy

The first sign of pregnancy is a missed period.

Morning sickness is one of the most common symptoms of mothers-to-be. It develops during the second month of pregnancy and lasts up to the fourth month. It is caused by an increase in hormone levels.

It is extremely important during pregnancy to avoid taking medications. The deformation of the embryo can be caused by taking drugs. Women who smoke are more likely to have still born or premature babies.

Childbirth is the act of giving birth.

The process that leads to childbirth is called labor and delivery. Vaginal discharge which may have streaks of blood may come out over the course of several days before labor. When the fluid filled sac surrounding the baby breaks, labor is under way. Vaginal delivery is the most common method of childbirth

Signs Of Labor

About three weeks before labor begins you may feel what's known as lightening.

Lightening is a term applied to the descent of the uterus into the pelvic cavity. This is when the fetus is said to have dropped. Lightening is felt either across the womb or in the small of the back. At this stage an obstetrician can determine before hand whether childbirth will be easy or difficult. He can also tell whether the baby is in the right position or not. By using his fingers and hands, he can make an accurate determination of the size of the pelvis.

The most normal method of delivery is one which the baby’s head comes first (vertex presentation). However, in the breech position, the buttocks or legs may come first.

Labor may be divide into three stages.

The first stage is known as dilation period. It begins with the onset of a series of rhythmic contractions regularly spaced out. These contraction may get shorter and shorter and become stronger and last longer. Contractions help your cervix to soften and open up (dilate). When strong contractions occur every five to ten minutes, the patients should go to the hospital. The first stage is calculated from the onset of dilation until there is complete dilation of the cervix.

The second stage begins at the time of complete dilation of the cervix and ends with the expulsion of the infant. With the cervix completely dilated the woman is able to  push the infant out.

The third stage of childbirth begins with the delivery of the baby and ends with the delivery of the placenta. The placenta detaches itself and is expelled.

Mothers to-be Healthy Diet

It is important to the health of both the mother and fetus that the mother eats a well-balanced diet.

A good source of dietary calcium is essential for fetal development and to ensure that the baby has strong teeth and bones.

Dietary folic acid is recommended to prevent birth defects such as spina bifida.

Get a good source of iron from food. Iron supplements are not recommended during pregnancy because they could damage the baby’s tender organs.

Avoid hydrogenated fat, they cause unnecessary weight gain.

Avoid white flour. Consume plenty of natural whole grains.

Limit your intake of fish because of its mercury content.

Consume fresh fruits and vegetables.

Avoid sugar intake.

Drink eight to ten glasses of water per day.
