Eczema in Children - Homeopathy
Eczema is more common among children than adults. It occurs more often in girls than in boys.
Eczema is an allergic reaction that produces itching, swelling, and scaling of the skin.
In eczema, an itchy rash may appear around the elbows, the back of knees, face, or entire body, which suddenly turns into scaly, weeping, and crusted patches of skin. Sore spots may become infected. It usually clears up when the child is two or three years old, but it may flare up again during adolescent or later.  Eczema may be caused by an allergy to food or pollen.
Avoid treating eczema with topical ointments. Otherwise, the child may develop an alternating health condition (see homeopathy in practice).
The most common type of eczema is atopic dermatitis, an allergy which has an inherited tendency. It may occur in infants who inherit the condition from a parent with asthma or hay fever.
Another type of eczema is seborrheic dermatitis. It is a condition which causes dandruff of the scalp. It is known as "cradle cap" in infants. It is caused by a disorder in the functioning of sebaceous glands which nourish the scalp.
Contact dermatitis, on the other hand, is a local inflammation of the skin caused by exposing the skin to a substance to which one is hypersensitive.
There are two types: Allergic dermatitis and irritant dermatitis.
Irritant dermatitis is an irritation caused when the skin is in direct contact with a substance to which it is allergic to such as detergent, soap, and clothes.
Allergic dermatitis is an inflammatory pruritic skin condition which flares up on contact with a foreign substance, such as poison ivy or poison oak.
Homeopathy in Practice
Respect the body's natural ability to heal.
In homeopathy, eczema is viewed as an internal condition expressing itself externally.
The skin is a great emunctory organ. When the liver is overtaxed with toxins and unable to keep up detoxification processes, the skin comes to its assistance.
The purging of toxins on the surface of the skin is an indication that the organism is desperately trying to get rid of accumulated waste products.
As long as the skin purges toxins, no toxin damage will occur. Toxins will begin to infiltrate the system only when it fails to externalize them.
Do not treat eczema topically. When you treat eczema with a topical ointment, you drive the very toxin that the body is trying to drive out of the system back in, giving the toxin an opportunity to concentrate on internal organs or tissues. Over time, the build-up of toxins will lead to a more serious internal disease.
